Long Melford’s popular Street Fair has been cancelled this year - due to police not having staff available and a lack of volunteers.
District councillor John Nun said: “We have decided to give it a rest this year. The numbers were increasing all the while but the police do not have the staff available for us. We can’t get the volunteers as well. We are a victim of our own success.”
Mr Nunn said the village would stage other events to take the place of the Street Fair, including an event to celebrate the Queens’s 90th birthday in June, and a large village fete on the green with music and food in July.
“Obviously, we are not saying it’s forever. But it’s just not possible this year,” he said. The Fair started life as a Christmas Fair.
