Election looms as race for police role hots up

Householders will go to the polls on Thursday to pick new police and crime commissioners as 41 people across England and Wales are elected by the public for the new role.

In Suffolk, the candidates are Jane Basham (Labour), David Cocks (Independent), Bill Mountford (UK Independence Party) and Tim Passmore (Conservative).

In Essex, the candidates are Nicholas Alston (Conservative), Robin Tilbrook (English Democrats), Andrew Smith (UKIP), Val Morris-Cook (Labour), Mick Thwaites (Independent) and Linda Belgrove (Independent).
