Elderly man collapses crossing Sudbury road

An elderly man has collapsed as he attempted to make his way across a pelican crossing in Sudbury.

The man, who is thought to be in his 80s, collapsed to the floor in the middle of Girling Street at around 1.30pm today.

Paramedics are currently at the scene treating the man, who it is believed may have fell as a result of the hot weather conditions, and are preparing to take him to hospital by ambulance.

The incident has left traffic building up in Girling Street on the approach into the town centre.

Pc Jake Lees from Sudbury Police said the man had not been hit by a car.

He added that diversions were not currently in place but motorists were advised to avoid Girling Street.
