THESE young swimmers were the first to take the plunge in a series of water safety sessions.
The scheme at Great Cornard open air swimming pool aims to educate children on the dangers to look out for when near water, as well as how to swim.
The first session took place last Saturday and was a resounding success, according to pool manager Dan Lawrence.
“We can have up to 15 children in a class and the first session was full,” he said.
“The sessions are designed to increase water safety for children aged between five and 12, and to promote water confidence.
“Parents have been really appreciative and the lessons learned are useful as we are so close to the River Stour. They also come in handy on holidays.”
The sessions will take place every Saturday at the pool from 10am until September and have been made possible by grants from Babergh District Council and Great Cornard Parish Council.
