TWO school staff members were given an emotional send-off after clocking up more than 70 years’ service.
Shirley Whittaker and Jill Warnock said goodbye to pupils and teachers at Great Waldingfield Primary School on Friday.
A special assembly was held for Mrs Whittaker, who spent 38 years at the school working in the kitchen and then as a cleaner, and Mrs Warnock, who started out as a dinner lady before becoming a teaching assistant during a 35-year spell.
Children sang to the pair, both from Great Waldingfield, and family, friends and former colleagues attended to bid them farewell.
“They have been here for such a long time and will be very much missed,” said headteacher Angie Jones.
“It was quite emotional as the assembly was a surprise for them and they just stood there in shock at first.”
Mrs Jones said after the children had left for their summer holidays, teachers and staff had a cream tea with the retiring pair.
