Dog trainer hopes kennels will get the go-ahead this time

Contentious plans for a dog training and grooming business in Boxford are to be ruled on by councillors.

Paul Sims, who runs Simbo’s Gun Dogs and Grooming, is seeking to create a dog grooming parlour and kennels on land in Stone Street. He also wants to place a log cabin on the site.

The proposals were refused by Babergh District Council a year ago when councillors decided the business would increase traffic and disturb residents.

Mr Sims, who has come in for criticism from some villagers for starting the business last year without planning permission, said concerns were misplaced.

“Upsetting people was never my intention, but the business works so well here,” he said.

“Customers have said how much they like it and they hope we get permission.”

Some villagers have objected to the proposals fearing noise from gun shots, as well as dog waste and light pollution.

Committee members have been recommended to approve the plans at a meeting on Wednesday.
