A FATHER has spoken of his disgust after he found a dead cat wrapped in a bag while on a family boat trip.
Rob Simpson, from Long Melford, he was canoeing down the River Stour with his young family on Saturday when he spotted a white pillowcase – tied tightly with something inside it – on the bank overlooking the approach to Cornard Lock.
He said: “I managed to tear open the pillowcase and, to our horror, there was a light-coloured ginger haired cat wedged inside with a house brick.
“It was pretty horrific and I can’t imagine who would commit such a despicable act of animal cruelty.”
Mr Simpson contacted the police and the RSPCA, who are now investigating the incident.
“Hopefully the guilty culprit will be found or, at the very least, an upset family will be able to find out what happened to their cherished pet,” he added.
l Anyone with any information about the cat, believed to be male and around eight years old, should contact the RSPCA on 0300 1234 999.
