Plans to build a Tesco supermarket in Hadleigh will be decided upon later this month.

The company’s proposals to build a new store on the former Brett Works site were due to be heard today, but the meeting was delayed.

Babergh District Council’s development committee will now rule on the plans, which have divided opinion for more than a decade, at the Guildhall on July 24.

Hadleigh Chamber of Commerce claim that the store is not needed after Morrisons opened a new supermarket on the outskirts of the town in January.

However Tesco argue the shop would increase visitors and boost trade.
