Crisp makers named Essex’s best
Staff at a Wormingford crisp manufacturer were celebrating this week after winning a county food competition.
Fairfields Farm was named as the East of England Co-op Producer of the Year for Essex for its prize-winning potatoes and crisps.
“We were over the moon to be named Essex supplier of the year,” said company director Lucy Strathern.
“It’s really satisfying for all members of our team to gain recognition for all the hard work they put in on a daily basis.”
The farm will now go on to compete in the grand final, where it will face other winners from across Suffolk and Norfolk.
“It is the second time we have reached the finals, so to win it would be amazing and a great boost to the whole team,” added Lucy.
Hadleigh Maid, a chocolate manufacturing company based in the town’s Crockatt Road, was a finalist in the Suffolk competition but lost out to Bury St Edmunds-based sausage and cooked meats firm Taste of Suffolk, which claimed top spot.
In total, more than 13,500 votes were cast by customers celebrating more than 140 growers and producers across the area.
