The theft of a car from outside a Halstead home has prompted police to urge people to keep keys safe at night.
Burglars forced their way through the front door of a house in Winston Way between midnight and 7.30am on Tuesday, August 27, and stole a laptop and other items worth £4,000, before stealing the keys to a grey Audi A4, which was also taken.
Dc Liz Young, investigating officer, said: “Our appeal specifically goes out to early-morning motorists of that Tuesday who may have seen this car.
Those who saw any suspicious, unusual activity in the area could also prove to be key witnesses.”
Officers carried out a forensic examination and door-to-door inquiries.
Dc Young added: “Car keys should be kept out of sight and not left around to tempt an intruder.”
Anyone with information should call 101.
