Stinger used in police chase after Naughton burglary

A ‘stinger’ spike strip was used to catch two men after a burglary at an address in Naughton near Hadleigh on Tuesday.

Police were alerted at around 3.50pm by a member of the public who believed they had disturbed a burglary at a property in New Road.

Shortly afterwards, officers returning from working on Operation Tourist, a day-long roads policing operation in west Suffolk, spotted a vehicle thought to have been involved in the burglary.

After a short pursuit, a stinger was deployed, stopping the vehicle. Two men were arrested and taken to Martlesham Police Investigation Centre.

Patrick Galligan, a 39-year-old man from Hawthorn Avenue, Colchester, was charged with burglary, driving while disqualified and driving without insurance.

Carl Williams, a 39-year-old man from Roper Court, Ipswich, was charged with burglary.

Both men are due to appear at Ipswich Magistrates’ Court today (Thursday).
