Man re-arrested in connection with murder of Long Melford woman

A man has been arrested for a second time in connection with the murder of a grandmother from Long Melford.

Mary Roberts, who lived in Hill Close, was found dead in a car park behind St Edmund’s Tavern in Risbygate Street, Bury St Edmunds, on March 27.

Two men were arrested on suspicion of murdering the 50-year-old mother-of-five and were bailed until next month.

This morning (Wednesday), a 56-year-old man, who was due to answer bail on June 4, was re-arrested. The man, who is from the Bury St Edmunds area, is currently being held at Martlesham Police Investigation Centre.

A 59-year-old man, also from the Bury St Edmunds area, remains on police bail on suspicion of murdering Mrs Roberts and is due to return to the Bury St Edmunds Police Investigation Centre on June 5.
