A man has appeared in court to admit a knife offence and false imprisonment in Clare.

Derek Bowering, 42, appeared at Ipswich Crown Court on Monday.

Bowering pleaded guilty to twice being in possession of a bladed article in a public place.

The court heard that Bowering had been in possession of a kitchen knife in Chilton Street, Clare, and Chapel Drive, Haverhill, both on January 31.

Bowering also pleaded guilty to an offence of false imprisonment of a woman in Clare on the same date.

Judge Rupert Overbury told Bowering that he would continue to be remanded in custody until he is sentenced on July 16.

Ordering the preparation of a pre-sentence report by the Probation Service, Judge Overbury told Bowering that it did not mean that an immediate prison sentence was being ruled out.

When Bowering, of Abbotts Road, Haverhill, is sentenced, the court will also consider psychiatric reports.
