Care worker in court

A TEENAGE care worker charged with stealing money from nursing home residents has appeared in court.

Melisa Castle, 19, of Bells Lane, Glemsford, is charged with 13 counts of theft while working at Melford Court Nursing Home in Long Melford.

At Bury St Edmunds Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday, Castle pleaded not guilty to 12 of the thefts, but indicated she was guilty of stealing £20 from one resident.

The alleged thefts, which total £501, are believed to have been carried out over an eight-month period last year.

Last week, Rhona Mcleod, regional director for Bupa Care Services, which runs the care home, told the Free Press that Castle had been dismissed following an internal investigation.

She will return to court on April 19 for a committal hearing.
