FIREFIGHTERS spent more than two hours tackling a fire at a pet food factory in Sudbury.
Two crews from Sudbury attended the blaze at Nestlé Purina PetCare in Windham Road shortly after 1pm on Thursday.
Further crews from Long Melford, Hadleigh, Clare and Halstead were then called in to help.
The six crews battled the fire which involved machinery and wheat on the factory’s mezzanine floor.
Company spokeswoman Claire Robinson-Davies said the fire was in a contained unit housing the factory’s odour control system.
“The section was immediately closed down and all employees safely evacuated,” she said.
“With the help of the fire brigade, the fire was quickly under control and the majority of the plant was back in service in a matter of hours.”
She added that the fire was caused by a blockage in the odour control system.
