For a couple from Great Cornard, New Year’s Day has a whole new meaning after the birth of their first son Luca.
Emily Berry and her fiancé Stewart Wells were at a party seeing in the new year with family and friends when Emily’s waters broke just after midnight.
Stewart sprung into action to drive the 24-year-old to West Suffolk Hospital where she gave birth to Luca, weighing six pounds, at around 1.30pm on New Year’s Day.
Emily said it was quite a shock to go into labour three days early.
“I thought ‘you are not going to believe this, but my waters have just broken’,” she said.
“The birth was quite quick, the midwives said I was in active labour for three hours.”
Emily said New Year’s Day will be an extra special occasion for the couple.
“We are always going to be planning a birthday party,” she added.
The first-time parents, who have returned home from hospital, said Luca seems content and happy.
As the first grandchild in Emily’s side of the family, she said everyone was excited to meet baby Luca.
