A COUPLE who embarked on a series of fundraising events to help sick children and their families across the country have raised more than £3,000.
Gavin Younger, 32, and his wife, Sian Guyton, 28, from Queens Road in Sudbury, set about raising as much money as possible for Well Child – a charity which aims to support those managing serious illnesses and complex health conditions – after the birth of their son, Sam.
The pair say they felt “lucky” to have had a healthy baby boy and wanted to do all they could for those who are less fortunate.
Sian said: “We have been so lucky with Sam, who is a happy and healthy eight-month-old, and really wanted to do something for people caring for sick children.
“Well Child was perfect for us.”
The fundraising began in early April with a quiz at the Old School in Long Melford, before Gavin took to the streets of the capital for the London Marathon.
The final fundraiser took place last weekend when the couple organised a table sale at the Old School.
Sian, who was helped by her father Rob in arranging the events, said they had set out to raise around £2,000, but had topped that mark with a total of £3,039.
“Everything we did raised more money than we thought and it is fantastic that everyone has been so generous. I can’t quite believe it.”
