Councillor resigns as member of Suffolk cabinet
Cllr Sarah Stamp has today resigned as Suffolk County Council’s cabinet member for communities.
It follows her decision not to stand for re-election next year.
She said: “Having recently come to the difficult decision not to stand again as a Suffolk County Councillor next May, it feels like now is the appropriate time for me to stand down from my position as Suffolk County Council’s cabinet member for communities.
“This afternoon therefore I tendered my resignation to the leader, Colin Noble.
“This will enable me to focus on the part of the role which I have always enjoyed most, community work within my own Hardwick division, and also to prepare for my next challenge.”
“I would like to thank Colin Noble for giving me the opportunity to be part of his cabinet – I have enjoyed the role enormously and would like to pay testament to the outstanding officers who have supported me,” she added.
“I would also like to make it absolutely clear that I believe Colin is the right leader for Suffolk County Council and the Conservative group as we face what can only be described as a challenging future, given both the reduction in funding and the wider devolution agenda.
“Local government is changing – I for one welcome that change - and I have faith that Colin understands that and is fighting hard for the best outcome for Suffolk.”
A council spokesman said: “This was Sarah’s own private decision. We wish her all the best with her endeavours and welcome her still playing a very active part on the council, representing the views of her constituents.”
