Council homes are being built in Babergh amid a shortage of properties in the district.
Jack Owen asked where new homes were being built during last Tuesday’s Sudbury Town Council meeting and was told by Babergh district councillor Jan Osborne that new homes were being built with plans for more homes in the pipeline.
Mrs Osborne said 12 homes were under construction in Lavenham and 15 in Glemsford.
In total there are five more sites identified however the locations are currently commercially sensitive.
“There is going forward a big programme of council building,” said Mrs Osborne.
In reply Mr Owen said there was a real shortage of two bedroom properties, which meant some tenants able to downsize had no opportunity.
He said if more two bedroom properties were built it would release larger homes for families.
“I would have thought the building of one and two bedroom houses must be a priority,” he said.
