Clare community stalwart honoured with MBE

By Priya Kingsley-Adam

A man from Clare has been honoured with an MBE at Buckingham Palace.

Derek Blake, of Hermitage Meadows, received the honour from Prince William in recognition of his services to education and the community.

He is the founding vice-chairman and a school governor for the Stour Valley Educational Trust, the body which established Stour Valley Community School in 2011.

Mr Blake also chairs the trust, which runs Clare Community Primary School.

As trustee of Clare Castle Country Park, he is helping to implement a major refurbishment at the site, which received a £1.5 million grant from the Heritage Lottery Fund.
