Community groups receive £160,000 council funding
Community organisations including a local archaeology group have been given thousands in funding from Braintree District Council.
In total more than £160,000 was awarded to community projects in the district as part of the council’s Mi Community programme.
This included funding for groups in Halstead, Gosfield, Colne Engaine and Castle Hedingham.
Stour Valley Archaeology Group was formed in 2013, and has already organised and run two archaeological digs at Goldingham Hall in Bulmer.
The group has been awarded £3,000 to continue research into the remains of a medieval hall found at the site, which it is hoped could reveal the secrets of our ancestors.
The dig will take place from May 28-31, with the final day set as an open day for members of the public to come and visit the site and view the finds.
