Now is the time to check you are registered to vote if you want to take part in the Suffolk and Norfolk county council elections on May 4.

Councils have now sent out polling cards – 120,000 in West Suffolk alone – and if you receive one you do not need to register to vote.

If you are not registered you have until Thursday April 13 to do so. You can register at www.gov.uk/register-to-vote

The polling card tells you your voting arrangements. If you vote in person on the day, the polling station is given. Please check where it is as some polling stations have changed.

If you cannot attend on the day details are given on the reverse of the card for applying for a postal vote by 5pm on Tuesday April 18 or appointing a proxy by 5pm Tuesday April 25.

If you have requested to postal vote, your polling card tells you the date your ballot paper will be mailed and the address it will be sent to.

The lists of candidates will be published on Wednesday April 5.
