Auditions are to begin this month for a Sudbury Dramatic Society play called Bazaar and Rummage.

The September production at Sudbury’s Quay Theatre is a play by popular author Sue Townsend, author of the Adrian Mole series of books.

Set in a church hall in Acton, London, this is the funny and moving story of a group of women suffering with agoraphobia who, as part of their self-help group, decide to break through their troubled lives for one day at least by bravely staging a bazaar and rummage sale.

Sue Townsend has crafted a very entertaining, witty and poignant play of ordinary people striving to overcome their obstacles in an effort to re-join society.

Director of Bazaar and Rummage, Jonathan Scripps is an experienced performer and director whose directing debut began in 2009. More recently, he has directed Steel Magnolias and We Happy Few for the Essex-based Greville Theatre Club.

Jonathan is working with Sudbury Dramatic Society for the first time and is looking for a cast of six women of varying ages. Auditions are being held on April 25, at The Quay Theatre at 7.30pm.

Scripts are now available for short term loan from The Quay Theatre Box Office on 01787 374745.

Anyone is welcome to audition but, on being cast, are expected to become members of Sudbury Dramatic Society.

Bazaar and Rummage is on at The Quay from September 6-10, and rehearsals are expected to begin in July.
