A CONCERT featuring baroque instruments is to be held in Sudbury’s Gainsborough’s House Museum at the weekend.
Ensemble Chaconne are from America and will perform A Musical Portrait: Thomas Gainsborough and His Circle on Saturday at 6.30pm. The group has been invited to play by the Friends of Gainsborough’s House.
Performed on historical instruments, the concert showcases the English guitar along with baroque flute, viola da gamba, and baroque lute.
The programme features works by European composers who were colleagues of Gainsborough, including Johann Bach and famed oboist Johann Christian Fischer, who eloped with Gainsborough’s oldest daughter.
Penny Payne, of the Friends of Gainsborough’s House, said: “We are most privileged to welcome and host the Ensemble Chaconne from America and to hear music of Gainsborough’s friends played in his birthplace.”
Tickets are £30 each, including wine and canapés, and are available from Gainsborough’s House in Gainsborough Street, Sudbury.
