A team of paddlers who completed a seven-mile trip down the River Stour to improve life for people with disabilities say they have been amazed by people’s generosity.
Eleven people from the Christian Aid group in Sudbury took on a journey by boat to Bures and back to help a project to beat poverty and discrimination in Lebanon and the West Bank.
Donations have reached £1,433 and the money will be quadrupled by the European Union, taking the total raised to more than £5,000.
“This is an amazing achievement and testament to local people’s generosity and concern to tackle poverty,” said Simon Snell, from Christian Aid in Sudbury.
Among those who took part were the Rev John Boardman, of St John’s Methodist Church, and members of Churches Together in Sudbury.
