Pub saved by £1million restoration

The vision of a Little Cornard businessman, who bought a depilated pub, is set to be realised thanks to a £1million restoration project.

Robert Morgan bought The Stockwell, a historic building dating back to 1350, from Admiral pubs three years ago.

In doing so he saved the pub from imminent collapse and it is due to open as a restaurant and real ale hall on November 30.

“At times progress was painfully slow as we battled to bring this wonderful old building back to life,” said Mr Morgan.

“But there is a lot of love for the Stockwell building and it is without doubt one of the most interesting historical buildings around.”

Among the discoveries during the restoration were an 14th century archway and ancient oak beams.
