A SUCCESSFUL one-woman business in Lavenham has praised Babergh District Council’s planning department after she moved to a new High Street location.

Moi Mathieson, who has run her handmade jewellery business Made by Moi for six years, moved from her two-floor shop in Water Street to her new, smaller premises earlier this month.

“Babergh was really good and helpful,” she said. “Yes, there was a load of paperwork and going back and forth, but both the district council and Lavenham Parish Council, which approved it straight away, were brilliant.

“We need more retail in Lavenham and they knew I had a business here already and were very supportive.”

The move has benefited Miss Mathieson, who specialises in bespoke wedding and events jewellery and was into her third year in the Water Street shop.

“I had 352 people through the door in the first week, which was what I got in about a month in the old shop,” she said, adding that the rent for the new premises compared favourably with her previous payments.
