A CELEBRITY chef has been linked with a bid to buy a chain of hotels in the region, including one in the village of Lavenham.
Rumours suggest that restaurateur Marco Pierre White is looking to buy The Maypole Group, which runs businesses in Suffolk and Norfolk, but went into administration in October.
Among the hotels owned by the group, which employs more than 200 people, is The Angel Hotel in Market Place.
Administrators have confirmed they are in advanced negotiations with a buyer, but refused to reveal who it was.
Simon Bower, a partner at the administrators, said: “In the interests of confidentiality, it is not appropriate for the joint administrators to identify or discuss any interested parties.
“However, we are pleased to report that discussions are progressing well and we are hopeful of concluding a deal in the near future.”
Marco Pierre White was awarded three Michelin stars at the age of 33, but handed them back when he became a restaurateur in 1999 and has since appeared in ITV’s Hells Kitchen.
