Budgets to be increased for councillors

More money will be spent on helping community clubs and groups after Suffolk County Council agreed to raise locality budgets for councillors.

Each councillor will now be allocated £12,000 each year to donate to organisations in need in their area.

Peter Beer, county councillor for Great Cornard, said the new figure represented a rise of around £2,000.

“I am very pleased we have been given bigger budgets as it means I can spend more helping people in Great Cornard,” he said.

Mr Beer said he spent all of last year’s budget in the village and had recently given £653 towards funding a replacement portable building for Cornard Cricket Club.
