SUNDAY’S heavy downpour had organisers of the Boxford Open Gardens event worried that their annual church fundraiser would be a washout this year.
But, on the day, everything came up smelling of roses as they raised £2,500, surpassing their expectations.
Angela Tolputt, who organised it in aid of St Mary’s Church, said the rainy weather had not put a dampener on proceedings.
“I think people came out, despite the weather, because it was jubilee weekend and they made the effort to get out and about.
“Although we were down on numbers – last year we had 450 people come and this year it was 250 – we were still able to raise a lot for the church and so we were quite pleased in the end.”
