Villages around the country - including Boxford - are lighting 1,000 beacons on Thursday to celebrate the Queen’s 90th birthday.

Boxford Community Council is staging its beacon lighting event at the village’s White Hart pub, at 8.30pm.

Community council chairman Ward Baker said: “The National Anthem will be sung, along with Happy Birthday, and a letter from The Prince of Wales will be read out. This is happening all over the country.

“The person lighting our beacon is Kenny King who, we believe, is the oldest resident in Boxford at 93.”
