Auction for medals
The medals of a Long Melford soldier who died at the Battle of the Somme are for sale.
Private Albert Lilley of the 7th Suffolk Regiment was killed in action on July 3, 1916, after being hit by enemy gunfire during the abortive attack on the village of Ovillers.Claimed by his next of kin after the war, a British War medal and a Victory Medal are up for sale.
There is also a memorial plaque and some copied research. The honours are being sold by Martlesham auctioneers Lockdales as one lot on May 14, with a guide price of £170-£180.
