A permanent assistant chief constable has been appointed by Suffolk Police.

Rachel Kearton will lead local policing following the retirement of Tim Newcomb in 2013.

Temporary Assistant Chief Constable David Skevington, who has supported the chief officer team in the intervening period, will remain in post pending Mrs Kearton’s arrival in late summer.

Commenting on the appointment, temporary Chief Constable Gareth Wilson said: “Rachel is an exceptional candidate and I’m delighted to welcome her to the command team.

“She has a wealth of experience in policing and a real drive to draw on this to ensure Suffolk Constabulary continues to deliver an excellent service to the public.”
