Local artists are being invited to get involved and share their work as the countdown to Sudbury’s biggest art show begins.

Visions of Sudbury is set to return to the town in October with a Big Draw style event kicking off proceedings next month.

The show at St Peter’s, which exhibits locally-inspired art, promises to be bigger and better than before with a special display for photographers taking place in the town hall.

Exhibition organiser Robin Drury said they have set this year’s theme around Sudbury’s 247 listed buildings, which most people are unaware of.

“We want to highlight this aspect of Sudbury’s character by getting creative people to give their impressions of these buildings, or groups of buildings and their surroundings,” he said.

Mr Drury said they are actively encouraging work from a younger audience of 11 years and upwards.

The Sudbury Society, which has always sponsored the event, wants to produce a book and website about Sudbury’s listed properties, containing some of the best artistic works and photographs from the show.

The society is also offering cash prizes for the best artwork as an incentive to get younger artists involved.

To kick-off the run-up to the exhibition, there is a Big Draw style event taking place on May 16 in the centre of Sudbury.
