Armour clad Robert Crane has been dead for more than 600 years but he will take a prominent role on Sunday at St Mary’s Church, Chilton.

The amour-clad effigy of the one-time owner of Chilton Hall, will feature in what the trustees call a quiz hunt, solutions to questions being visible in the church or the churchyard.

“We want to encourage people to come with a picnic and have fun while discovering some of the fascinating features of the church which many mistakenly still believe is no longer used,” said trustee Val Herbert .

It starts at 3pm, quiz cards will cost £1 and drinks will be available.

“We are making great efforts to establish St Mary’s as an unique summer venue. We have a few services, including one later that day, but you don’t have to be religious to enjoy the building and what it offers in social events and history,” Mrs Herbert added.

In September the church will host a festival of new music showcasing the Garden Birds, a new group of local young singer/songwriters and musicians.
