Veteran antiques dealer begins new chapter with launch of Patrick Interiors and Exteriors in Long Melford
After decades of trading from the former Melford Antiques Warehouse until its sudden closure last year, a veteran antiques dealer said he is relishing the opportunity to start a new chapter, following the launch of his own business.
The official opening of Patrick Interiors, Exteriors and Antiques in Hall Street was held on Saturday morning, offering a selection of antiques, treasures, furniture, collectables and eclectic items from more than 30 dealers.
The new venture is named after its founder, Patrick Scholz, a well-known figure in the antiques and collectables scene in Long Melford, Cavendish and Clare, having built up his knowledge since beginning his career as a 19-year-old apprentice for a local interior designer in 1987.
Originally from Germany, Mr Scholz had sold wares from the Melford Antiques Warehouse since 1994, before having to vacate the premises along with many other dealers when it unexpected shut its doors last September.
“Initially, my team and I were devastated, as we’ve been working with all our the dealers successfully for many years,” he said.
“Since then, I’ve been approached by a number of them asking me to set up my own shop and to find suitable premises, so we can start all over again.
“It has been challenging. However, we are really pleased that we have found our own ‘Aladdin’s cave’ nestled in the heart of Long Melford.
“Everybody told me we had to name the new shop after me as, over the years, I’ve served thousands of customers who know me by name.
“They have then recommended me to other friends and family, saying ‘just ask for Patrick and you’ll find the shop.’”
The new business also sells architectural items and bespoke made-to-measure furniture, and offers advice on restoration and re-upholstery.
