A veritable feast of sport in Sudbury

SUDBURY is gearing up for a weekend of fun this weekend with scores of sports and other events planned for Sudbury Celebrates 2012.

The event has been organised by Sudbury Town Council in partnership with town and district organisations and business sponsors.

Sudbury mayor Jack Owen has called for more teams of eight to 10 people to take part in Saturday’s It’s A Knockout competition at the Delphi, in Newton Road.

Anyone interested in taking part should contact Mr Owen on unionjack1@talktalk.net by today

Programmes for the event will be available from a kiosk near Sudbury market on Market Hill on Saturday morning when visitors can hear a swing jazz quartet providing music in the market. They are also available from Sudbury Tourist Office at the library on Market Hill.

The huge variety of events include archery, karate, basketball, gymnastics, badminton, roller skating, table tennis, zumba, tai kwan do, cycling and a football tournament at AFC Sudbury.

Publicity for the event, in the form of a banner tied to the railings of St Peter’s in Sudbury, had to be removed this week because of claims it needed planning permission which organisers described as “petty”.
