SCHOOLCHILDREN will be toasting the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee in style after commemorative mugs celebrating her 60-year reign were handed out.

Pupils at St Gregory Primary School in Sudbury were presented with the mugs – complete with a picture of her majesty – by Sudbury mayor Tony Platt.

Year 4 pupils were tasked with receiving the mugs before distributing them among their classmates and fellow year groups.

Mr Platt, who also took along a mug marking the Queen’s Coronation in 1953, said: “These are very special and the children thoroughly enjoyed getting them.

“I showed the youngsters my Coronation mug, which they were very impressed with, and I am sure they will cherish theirs like I have.”

The mugs, which have been organised by Sudbury Town Council, are to be presented to all primary and nursery schoolchildren in Sudbury during the next two months.
