150 jobs up for grabs as ambulance service looks to improve emergency response
More patient-facing staff are needed to help improve emergency responses in the community, says the region’s ambulance service in its latest ambitious recruitment plans.
It wants highly motivated, passionate and caring people to apply for 150 Associate Ambulance Practitioner posts as part of an innovative, responsive, community focused and patient-driven service.
Robert Morton, Chief Executive of the East of England Ambulance Service NHS Trust (EEAST), said: “I have been working in the ambulance service for more than 20 years and it is so rewarding. I would encourage anyone thinking of making a career change or starting off on their career to consider joining EEAST; the Associate Ambulance Practitioner is an ideal way to start your ambulance career.”
He continued: “Recruiting patient facing staff will enable us to respond to more patients in the community, relieve the pressure on existing staff and offer more opportunities for staff to develop their careers within the ambulance service. And of course, it will bring new employment and career opportunities to people in the east of England.”
Associate ambulance practitioners (AAPs) have a similar scope of practice to emergency medical technicians (EMTs) and will work on ambulances delivering care to patients, and responding to 999 calls, in their community.
Successful applicants will complete a 12- 18-month training programme and will be awarded a Level 4 qualification against the Qualifications Credit Framework. It will include a four-week emergency driving course, classroom-based and online learning, self-study, clinical placements, a range of written and practical assessments, and completion of a portfolio of evidence.
