Concerts to stir the soul

MUSIC lovers can celebrate the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee with stirring sounds from some of Britain’s best-loved composers next month.

The Trinity Singers are staging a concert of works by Parry, Vaughan Williams, Stanford, and Handel at St Peter and St Paul’s Church in Lavenham on Saturday, May 12.

The programme includes Handel’s Zadok the Priest, Stanford’s Te Deum and Gloria, and Vaughan Williams’ Old 100th.

Tickets for the concert, which begins at 7.30pm, cost £8, with free admission for under-16s, and are available from Lavenham Tourist office, Landers Bookshop in Long Melford, and on the door.

l THE Stour Valley Singers are performing their summer concert next month.

It will take place at St John’s Methodist Church in York Road, Sudbury, on Saturday, May 19, at 7.30pm and will be conducted by musical director Tom Coggan.

Tickets cost £8 including refreshments and can be reserved by calling Janet Penfold on 01787 227929 or bought on the door. Proceeds will go to the church.
