Friday, June 24

LIANNE CARROLL: (Stoke By Nayland Hotel, 8pm, £20. Details: www.dovbear.co.uk/fleece) Celebrated one-woman show from the soulful and resourceful singer-pianist Carroll. Her carefully selected range of standards and originals plus customised salty repartee guarantees a splendid evening.

ANDY BOWIE QUARTET: (Tram Shed, Cambridge, 8pm, free) Tenor saxophone-playing philosophy professor leads a quartet presenting a connoisseur’s choice from the modern jazz repertoire.

Monday, June 27

BIG CHRIS BARBER BAND: (The Apex, 7.30pm, £22. Details: www.theapex.co,uk) The indefatigable trombonist Barber celebrates his 67th year as bandleader with this New Orleans-oriented set.

JAZZ JAM: (The Fat Cat & Canary, Norwich, 8.30pm, free. Details: www.jazzjam.org.uk) Established and friendly jam session led by guitarist Lee Vasey. All instrumentalists and singers welcome for sitting in.

KEVIN FLANAGAN QUARTET: (Hidden Rooms, Cambridge, 8pm, £15/£12. Details: www.cambridgejazz.org) US-born tenor saxophonist Flanagan leads a group specialising in haunting contemporary jazz which connects to the entire jazz tradition, from blues to free improvisation, with Kevin Flanagan (reeds), Dave Gordon (piano), Joel Humann (bass) and Tom Hooper (percussion).

SOLE BAY JAZZ BAND: (Sports Pavilion, Ditchingham, 8pm) Long established traditional group usually featuring Tim Densham (saxophone/clarinet), Ron Hockett (saxophone/clarinet), Bill Brewer (trombone), Ray Simmons (piano), Tony Jullings (bass), Craig Hipperson (drums) and Alan Cugnoni (guitar).

DON WELLER QUARTET: (Stoke By Nayland Hotel, 8pm, £15. Details: www.dovbear.co.uk/fleece) One of the great individuals of UK jazz, tenor saxophonist Weller remains full of musical invention and surprise, with Chris Ingham (piano), Mick Hutton (bass) and George Double (drums).
