A three-day Christmas festival featuring more than 90 stalls will get under way in Lavenham later this week.

Festivities will begin in the Market Place on Friday at 6pm with the traditional lighting up ceremony – carried out by players from Ipswich Town Football Club – and a street fair.

Singers and buskers will provide entertainment and there will be a Santa’s grotto, fairground attractions and donkeys. The festival runs throughout the weekend and has a Dickensian theme, with a prize for the best costume.

A Christmas festival will also be held in Long Melford next Saturday with Punch and Judy shows taking place, steam engines on display and morris dancers performing.

The event will run from 11am with carols being sung in the High Street.

Anyone who would like to volunteer to help at the festival in Lavenham should contact Sarah Rands on 07788 508520.
