Umbrellas were a required item for visitors to Cavendish open gardens at the weekend, but the occasional downpour did not put people off attending the biennial two-day village event.

In spite of the weather, organisers raised nearly £3,000 to be split between Cavendish Community Council and St Nicholas Hospice Care. And, thanks to matched funding from Barclays Bank, the hospice will receive an extra £1,500.

Organisers Brian and Judy Kemp said the event was a success, with more than 20 gardens open to the public.
