"I'M on the bus going to Bury!" The young lady's voice echoed around the lower deck, the windows seemed to vibrate, elderly women tutted and stared towards the back seat where the overpowering noise was coming from. Yes, the curse of the mobile phone had struck again.
Love them or hate them, they are here to stay and almost everyone seems to have one. Wherever we go, the conversations are going on, in the streets, the supermarkets and shops. It seems that no one can go for long before a conversation just has to ta
ke place. If this does not intrude on other people’s privacy, that’s fine, it’s good to talk to each other. But how are you with talking to God?
When I was a young lad I remember talking frequently to Him. Every problem, every worry was laid before the Lord and I trusted Him implicitly to deal with them, and He did.
So, what has happened to that mentality? Do I still believe that the Lord thinks about me enough to even care, let alone answer my prayers? Absolutely! He proves it every day, but I confess my conversations with Him are not as frequent as they should be. Are yours? If the answer is no, why should that be?
Maybe we believe that God does not have time to worry about our trivial problems, but He is the creator of time and there is nothing small or large that we cannot bring to Him.
The Bible says: “He is able to do exceeding abundantly more than we can ask or think.” Eph 3 v20.
And again: “Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication let your requests be made known to God.” Phil 4 v6.
These days in which we live can be stressful. Maybe you feel like you desperately need help and do not know where to turn. Let me say that: “Those who wait upon the Lord shall renew their strength,” Isa 40 v31, and: “He shall regard the prayer of the destitute, and shall not despise their prayer,” Psa 102 v17.
Whatever our situation, do not let prayer be a last resort, make it part of your daily routine. Talk to God, He waits to hear from you.
