SUDBURY cricket club’s stars of the future have been getting back into the swing of things after junior winter nets got under way.

The first of 10 sessions, which sees experienced coaches at the club passing on their skills to the next generation of cricketers, began at Sudbury Sports Centre, at Sudbury Upper School, towards the end of last month.

So far, more than 80 youngsters have already signed up, with more expected as the club’s impressive youth set-up gears up for the new summer season.

Phil Halliday, the Sunday I’s captain, who has club coach status and is helping run the sessions, said: “I was very impressed with the enthusiasm the youngsters gave in the first session.

“They have not played cricket since last season and that enthusiasm was fantastic.”

Fitness and fielding, brought in by South African overseas player/coach Jandre Coetzee last year, will again be a strong feature of the sessions this time around.
