BASEMENT side Halstead suffered another East Anglian Premier League defeat on Saturday, this time by 94 runs at home to Great Witchingham, while the weather saw Sudbury’s game at Saffron Walden called off.
Sudbury’s match was abandoned after 12 overs with the Talbots on 22 for no wickets (Pete Siegert 5 and Jay Phillips 16).
At Star Stile, Great Witchingham won the toss and decided to bat, declaring at 54 overs on 254-4.
Despite a 60 from Freddie Blackwell and a 56 from Daniel Sincuba though, Halstead’s reply ended after a lower-half collapse on 40.5 overs with them all out for 160.
Meanwhile, the draw for the first rounds of the FA Cup were made on Friday with AFC Sudbury facing a home tie with fellow Ryman League Division One North side Ilford on Saturday, August 25.
In the extra preliminary round on August 11, Ipswich Wanderers host Haldeigh United, Halstead Town travel to FC Clacton and Long Melford visit London APSA, with Great Cornard not having made this year’s cut.
In the FA Trophy preliminary round, AFC Sudbury have an away tie on Saturday, September 15 when they visit Faversham Town.
