UPMINSTER continued to be an unhappy hunting ground for Sudbury who did take positives in defeat after putting in a much better performance than the previous week.
Sudbury have never managed to beat the side who went into the game as the early league leaders at their home ground, so it was always going to be an uphill task for Graham Richards’ young side.
Sudbury again scored first with a penalty by Tom Summers, but it was the much heavier pack of the home side that allowed their very good number eight to do much of the damage and forge a lead.
The visitors gained confidence towards the end of the first half when the moves they were putting together started to have some success and for a period in the second half they controlled the game, bringing the scores back level at 22-22.
Tries from Summers, Andy Currie and Ethan Wright and two conversions by Summers completed the points tally for Sudbury but the power of the pack gave Upminster the final edge as Sudbury ran out of steam at the end of the game.
On Saturday (3pm), Sudbury are at home against Wanstead, who lie third in the table with another tough game on the cards.
