Andy Cornwell made a fantastic return to competition at Newton Green Golf Club, winning the annual Captain’s Yuletide with an impressive 47 points.

Cornwell has only recently returned to the club having been out of action for two
years as a result of hand
surgery.

Scores were high in the contest, which was played on a shortened course on temporary greens due to heavy overnight frost.

Two points behind in second place was Bill Knappett, while Darren Willetts saw Harry Wordley off in third place with his 43 points superior on countback.

The gross amateur prize for the day went to club champion Russell Oakey, with a score of 70, and club professional Tim Cooper came home with a round of 66.

Prizes were presented by vice-captain Chris Williams, standing in for the unavailable Dave Lavelle.
