Table Tennis: Brian's service earns reward
Brian Davison, from Great Yeldham, is this year's winner of the Braintree League's Martin Bawden Trophy for service or achievement.
The league recognised Davison's service for some 15 years, first behind the scenes at the Colne club, then as the driving force behind the new Netts club which played at Gosfield school and still runs a British League team.
He has served as the Braintree League's development officer since 2000, and the award also acknowledged his success after much perseverance in establishing a table tennis centre at Ramsey School in Halstead.
The school will act as a hub for table tennis to be played at other schools throughout the district.
The award for the most promising boy went to Philip Lawson, who is already winning games in the second division at the age of 11. He was also the cadets' singles champion.
The award for performance and diligence at coaching sessions went to Chris Bragg, a player yet to appear in the league but who displayed clear promise in the cadets' singles on finals night.
Closing date for entries for the 2006-07 season is July 1.
