THE Stoke-by-Nayland ladies team booked their place in the Essex County Harris Bowl final next month after overcoming Stockbrook Manor on Friday at Chelmsford Golf Club.

This was after heading the league stage and winning the quarter-final 5-0 against Regiment Way.

In good conditions, Stoke-by-Nayland made a strong start with the first two players out taking early leads.

By the halfway stage they were up in three of the five matches.

Lesley Garnett and Johanna Stonehewer-Smith secured two valuable points on the 13th and the 14th holes and were closely followed by Catriona Chaplin, gaining the third point and the win.

Sue Cooper and Anne Hemmings were called in from the course, with the match won, but both were in good positions in their matches.

Stoke-by-Nayland now travel to Romford Golf Club for the final to be played against Channels Golf Club, who beat Chelmsford in the other semi-final, on Friday October 12.

Team and results: Catriona Chaplin won 3&2, Lesley Garnett won 5&4, Johanna Stonehewer-Smith won 7&6, Sue Cooper and Anne Hemmings.
